This is why I decided to review Serta, a company known for producing high quality executive chairs.
Are they really the most comfortable chairs on the market?
Here’s my review of the company and their range of chairs.
About The Company
Serta didn’t manufacture chairs from the start, when they were founded in 1931. Their main product was actually the ‘Perfect Sleeper’ mattress.
They soon became very successful selling mattresses, and decided to expand their production line to ‘home, entertainment and office furnishings’.
Their primary vision is to be innovative in the market and to create products that improve the way we live.
They are responsible for the design of their office chairs, but there’s another company responsible for the manufacturing, distribution, and customer service, called True Innovations.

The Serta AIR looks like a remarkably comfortable office chair at first glance. And this is thanks to its padded armrests and multiple pillows. However, there’s so much more to it than comfort.
The first thing that impressed us with this chair is the lumbar support that comes with extra pillows on the sides. The pillows twist and flex as you move, giving you support no matter how you sit.
This type of reactive lumbar support will keep you comfortable even after long hours of work.
Upholstery
The frame of the Serta AIR was made from wood and is covered with bonded leather upholstery.
If you’re not familiar with bonded leather, it is a bunch of leather strands glued together to form a strong bond that actually feels and smells like leather.
This type of material is easier to maintain and costs less than single-piece leather upholstery.
The contrast stitching on the upholstery adds a contemporary look to this model. Also, the part that touches your back is upholstered with mesh to give you plenty of air circulation while you work.
Adjustability
The waterfall seat on the Serta AIR can be adjusted for height from 19.5 to 23.25 inches off the floor. The seat is 19’’ wide, which should be plenty for a standard-sized adult.
You can control both the height of the chair and the recline feature with the same mechanism. To change the height you pull the lever up or down, and to recline you simply pull it outwards.
The armrests are also adjustable for height between 25.5’’ and 29.25’’ off the floor. However, they are also something you should be mindful of because they tend to get brittle within a year.
Warranty
Serta offers a one-year limited warranty on all the cushions and components. This means you have to be the first owner of the chair or the warranty is void.

Serta Ergonomic Executive Office Motion Technology
The Serta Ergonomic Executive Chair comes with a generous 19.75’’ wide seat which should be comfortable enough for both standard and larger sized adults.
The seat comes with a waterfall edge and can be adjusted for height from 21’’ to 24’’ off the floor. You also get the option to tilt the seat forward which places you in an active working stance.
The arms are adjustable as well and you get 2’’ of wiggle room up and down.
Comfort
The upholstery on the Serta executive chair is made from black bonded leather and feels extremely soft to the touch.
The headrest is cushioned and the entire length of the backrest is 23’’, this brings the total chair height to 41’’-44’’. Perfect for accommodating people up to 5’10’’ tall.
Serta offers a standard 1-year warranty for this chair.
Serta Smart Layers AIR Arlington Executive Chair
If you need an outstanding lower back support structure that does its job right we would suggest the Serta Arlington model.
The lumbar support might seem like a bit too much at first but once you start using it you will notice the difference as it supports your lower back even when you lean forward.
The metal parts of the chair are pewter colored and don’t shine like chrome which is something to keep in mind while considering your office aesthetic.
The backrest tilts back and you’ll be able to control the tilt tension or the amount of force you need to lean back.
Comfort
The seat is 22’’ wide which should be comfortable enough for larger adults. It is on the soft side and comes with a 3’’ cushion.
The cushion works with an innerspring system similar to a mattress. This means you sink in a bit further than you’d be able to in a standard seat.
Assembly is easy, according to the majority of customers and the instructions are done well. The chair comes in a single box and all the pieces match.
Serta Ashland Ergonomic Home Office Chair
The Ashland model has a comfy memory foam cushion placed both inside the seat and in the arms. Inside the cushion, you’ll also find pocket coils that contour to your body.
The seat is height adjustable and can be lifted from 21’’ to 24’’ off the floor.
However, the cushion on the seat is not reversible because the bottom of the cover has velcro keeping it secured to the frame.
Backrest and tilt
The backrest is not at a true 90° angle but instead comes closer to 75°. The chair can be tilted even further and you can adjust the resistance with the help of a knob placed underneath the chair.
This chair doesn’t offer lumbar support so keep that in mind. The upholstery material is available in bonded leather or twill fabric. The fabric should be maintained with a damp cloth and mild soap.
The stand of the Ashland model is made from stainless steel with a chrome finish and swivels 360°. The weight capacity of this model is 250 lbs.
Serta Big & Tall Executive Office Chair
Just like the name suggests the Serta Big & Tall Executive Chair was made for larger sized adults who need that extra space in order to feel comfortable.
The seat is an impressive 22’’ wide and the backrest is 25.75’’ long bringing the maximum height of the chair to 49.5’’ tall.
In addition to being comfortable, the chair was designed to withstand larger capacity and will successfully hold up to 350 lbs of weight.
Adjustability
The Big & Tall chair is height adjustable and can be lifted from 20’’ up to 22’’ off the floor.
This leaves you with only 2’’ of wiggle room which is not a large range so make sure you take some measurements before buying this chair.
The adjusting mechanism works with a gas lift and is regulated by a handle that controls the tilt.
Comfort
With regards to the actual comfort, we really liked the layered pillows that make you feel like you’re sitting on a mattress instead of a chair.
The lumbar support is not adjustable but it does provide excellent lower back support. The casters on this chair are heavy-duty and come with scuff-resistant footpads that help protect your floors.
The Serta Big & Tall is completely upholstered in bonded leather and comes with a 1-year limited warranty. Assembly is easy and should take less than 30 minutes.
People that bought this chair have been using it for years without any issues.
Serta Leighton Home Office Memory Foam Chair
The Serta Leighton office chair is very similar to the Ashland model on our list. The cushioning is made from comfortable memory foam and placed in both the seat and the armrests.
The seat on the Leighton is the widest on our list giving you a whopping 23’’ of space. The seat can also be raised from 19.25’’ up to 22.25’’ off the floor and feels extremely comfortable to sit in.
The unique thing about this chair is that the arms are placed a little further back. So, if you’re a person that enjoys sitting cross-legged on a chair this is a good fit.
Design
The Leighton features thick fabric upholstery and comes in 8 neutral colors. It also features a stainless steel base and swivels 360 degrees.
The all-surface casters perform well and won’t cause you any trouble. Judging by customer experience the chair should last you a long time.
Assembly
Assembly is extremely easy for this model as there are only 5 steps to take, and it should take you less than 15 minutes to put together.
The only downside concerning customer experience is that the color shades look slightly different when they arrive, but even then customers don’t mind.
Serta Hannah Microfiber Office Chair
If you’re looking for the softest most velvety chair available on the market we strongly suggest looking into the Serta Hannah Office Chair.
The entire upholstery on this chair is made from an ultra-soft microfiber that feels plush when you sit down. To add to the comfort the entire chair including the headrest is covered with body pillows.
The seat is fluffy enough to reduce the pressure on your tailbone while you work and even the arms on this chair are cushioned with the same soft microfiber.
Adjustability
The seat on the Hannah office chair can be lifted from 18’’ up to 21.75’’ off the floor and the 18.5’’ of width will be comfortable enough for regular-sized adults.
The backrest is 26.5’’ tall and reclines with the help of a lever. You can also change the tilting tension with the knob underneath the seat. This model comes with the standard 1-year warranty.
Other Recommended Brands
La-Z-Boy
La-Z-Boy is a large American company that was founded in 1928. They released their very first recliner that same year.
Skip to today and you’ll be amazed to hear that they deal with over 900 different leathers and fabrics for their palette of products.
They offer stationary home furnishings and recliners, and each piece can be customized to suit your needs. They even have an expert team that comes and designs your space for free.
Their manufacturing processes take place in North America but they sell their chairs across the globe.
Duramont
The Duramont Company is not very active online. They do not have their own website or any type of social media presence.
They are known for their chairs but they also seem to sell storage containers on Amazon and that’s about it. The only way to reach them is through Amazon.
We figure this is a Chinese owned company that only sells through Amazon and doesn’t seem to have the means or interest to set up an online profile.
StarSpace
StarSpace is similar to Duramont when it comes to online presence. They work with online retailers and have not created a website or any other means of providing customer service to their clients.
The good thing is that you can deal with Amazon if you purchase through them and have any problems.
The Hon Company
The Hon Company was created in 1944 and has a well-designed website, to begin with.
They have assembled a team of award-winning designers and smart engineers who work hard and continue to push the limits of office chair comfort a bit further.
They also have outstanding customer service and a lifetime guarantee on their products which has proven to be a winning combo.
Should You Choose Serta?
Serta seems to give a lot more to its customers than what they pay for.
The thing that makes them different from other brands is that their office chairs meet very specific purposes. So make sure you understand the chair you’re buying beforehand.
We definitely agree that Serta executive chairs give you the most, within its price range. Yes, they do provide a budget line of chairs, but why not get the best you can for your buck?
