OFM Essentials Office Chairs: Are They Worth It?

If you’re searching for a low-medium priced office chair, OFM Essentials is definitely worth considering.

OFM is not a well-known company but there’s definitely potential there.

They have a wide range of options from executive chairs, task chairs, and gaming chairs.

In this article, I’ll review their most popular ergonomic chairs and also talk about the company.

OFM is a US-based distributor of imported office furniture. The company was founded in 1995 by innovators Abel and Barbara Zalcberg. They provide ergonomic solutions for the home & office.

Their vision was to create a same-day shipping system by keeping inventory in strategically placed distribution centers and warehouses around the country.

The abbreviation OFM stands for Office Furniture Marketing. This tells us that OFM’s strategy is focused on marketing and providing merchandise for Vine reviews.

The question is, are they worth it?

If you’re looking for a popular mesh chair that looks good, provides plenty of ventilation, and takes care of your ergonomic health, consider the Ergo Mesh Office Chair from OFM’s Core Collection.

The seat on this chair is completely enveloped in mesh and feels extremely comfortable to sit in. It might not be as comfortable as a padded seat but it will keep you cool while you work.

The seat slides back and forth but the motion might not be as smooth as some of the high-end models out there. It is 19.29’’ wide and can be adjusted for height between 17.9’’ and 21.65’’.

Lumbar support

What we really liked about this chair is its active lumbar support that follows your movement and responds to your body.

The lumbar is prominent, and it might take some time to get used to if this is your first ergonomic chair, but having that kind of support while working for long hours is important for your health.

Adjustability and assembly

Another great thing about this chair is the 4D armrests that move in all directions and swivel to the sides. You can change their width and height, or push them back and forth.

They are made of hard plastic and topped with thick foam. If you don’t like armrests they can be omitted in the assembly process without issues.

The headrest is another helpful addition for people who want to lean back and relax from time to time. It can be adjusted for height and also tilts at an angle for a better fit.

What most people really like about this chair is the recline feature that works with synchro-tilt, meaning your seat stays flat while the backrest tilts independently.

The assembly process is pretty easy on this one, the instructions in the package are clear, and you’ll only have to follow 6 steps to put everything together.

What We Like

  • Several adjustable features
  • The seat slides back and forth
  • Mesh keeps you cool

What We Don’t Like

  • The seat requires some effort to slide

OFM Core Big & Tall Executive High Back Chair

OFM Core Big & Tall Executive High Back Chair

  • Padded seat & backrest
  • 5’’ thick cushion
  • Adjustable recline
  • Weight capacity of 500 lbs

If you’re looking for the largest seat width on the market, you’ve come to the right place.

The OFM Big & Tall Executive Chair offers 23.75’’ of width, making it the perfect seat for heavy people.

The extra-wide seat is coupled with an extremely strong frame and can support an astonishing 500 lbs of weight.

The seat is height adjustable and can be lifted from 19’’ to 23.5’’ off the floor, which is a bit higher than the standard, so be sure to take your measurements beforehand.

Comfort

The Big & Tall model is upholstered in durable bonded leather that was tufted and stitched to prevent the stuffing inside from shifting.

You’ll also find a generous amount of cushion in the seat (5’’), backrest, and arms (1’’),  which should keep you incredibly comfortable while you work.

Bonded leather is not as breathable as mesh, but it does provide more comfort. The arms come with a loop design and are not adjustable but can be removed in the assembly process.

This chair reclines with the help of a tilt lever that can be adjusted for tension. But, it can only be locked to an upright position and not while it’s reclined.

The only downside reported was in regards to the 5-star base that is longer than usual and easy to bump into.

What We Like

  • Generous seat width
  • Ample padding
  • High maximum weight capacity

What We Don’t Like

  • The 5-star base needs to be shortened a bit

OFM ESS Upholstered Home Office Desk Chair

OFM ESS Upholstered Home Office Desk Chair

  • Stain-resistant fabric upholstery
  • Adjustable seat height
  • Tilt option
  • Weight capacity of 250 lbs

If you’re working from home and need a chair that will be comfortable enough for daily use, we suggest looking into the ESS office chair.

The chair is upholstered with a fabric that is stain-resistant and easy to maintain. The gray color is neutral and should blend in with most office aesthetics.

This model comes with a simple minimalistic design that doesn’t allow further adjustments, except for the height of the seat. The seat can be adjusted from 17.5’’ to 20.25’’ off the floor.

Be mindful of the width of the seat though, as it is only 16.75’’ wide and will only be comfortable for petite adults, students, or teenagers. You also get a tilt function and 360° swivel option on this one.

Warranty and assembly

The ESS chair comes with a lifetime limited warranty and will hold up to 250 lbs of weight. The assembly is simple with only 3 steps to follow.

Overall the chair is comfortable and looks attractive, the only issue customers reported is the wheels that don’t snap into place and tend to fall if you lift the chair.

What We Like

  • Stylish
  • Comfortable
  • Easy to assemble

What We Don’t Like

  • Wheels drop when you lift the chair

If you’re a fan of a mesh backrest that will keep you cool while you work, but you also like the comfort of a cushioned seat, this model has both.

The backrest looks unique because it’s a mixture of plastic and mesh. It was designed to curve at the lumbar region and give you proper lower back support.

Some people love the lumbar, but others say it is a bit too prominent for their taste. So if you need strong lumbar support, this chair will do the trick.

The seat is padded and upholstered with fabric. It is 20.1’’ wide which should be enough for standard-sized adults.

Adjustability

What we really liked about this chair is the flip-up arms that can be moved out of the way, they are also height-adjustable so you’ll have the best of both worlds.

The chair tilts but it doesn’t lock into place. The tilt option is not as smooth as some of the high-end models on the market but for the price, it’s decent enough.

Assembling this chair consists of 5 steps, but some people reported certain pieces not lining up, so that might make the process cumbersome.

Also, get yourself a hex tool before your package arrives because the one supplied is soft steel and unusable.

What We Like

  • Flip-up arms that also adjust for height
  • Ventilated mesh back
  • Comfy seat

What We Don’t Like

  • Assembly could prove to be difficult

The Manager Chair from OFM features soft bonded leather upholstery in a classic black color to match most office aesthetics.

The backrest features an extra thick cushion for comfort, and it reclines like a standard office chair. You can lock it in an upright position but not when reclined.

The arms on this chair are solid plastic and can be adjusted for height from 26’’ to 29.25’’ so you’ll get around 3’’ of wiggle room.

For people that prefer solid arms, this might be a good choice. The seat is generously padded with a 4’’ cushion and features a waterfall design that decreases the pressure on your knees.

Adjustability

The seat can be adjusted for height from 18.5’’ to 21.25’’ off the floor. It is 20.5’’ wide and will be comfortable for standard-sized adults.

The casters are a twin-wheel model and will perform well over smooth surfaces.

The only downside to this chair is the arms that tend to get a bit wobbly on the highest setting. But, that’s to be expected from adjustable arms in general.

What We Like

  • Lots of padding
  • Bonded leather that feels soft to the touch
  • High back

What We Don’t Like

  • Arms wobble on the highest setting

OFM’s Gaming Chair comes at a budget price and will be attractive for most people, but beware, this chair is on the small side and was designed with teenagers and petite adults in mind.

The seat is 17.75’’ wide which is definitely on the small side compared to regular models that offer 20’’ of width. Also, the backrest is 22’’ long which should be fine for people up to 5’5’’ tall.

The chair leans back but doesn’t rock. The middle of the backrest and seat are covered in mesh to promote airflow while gaming, but the rest of the chair is upholstered with firm PU leather.

The mesh also comes in bright colors that really stand out. The arms are stationary and feature a loop design. Overall it is a simple and comfy chair without any bells or whistles.

What We Like

  • Budget-friendly price
  • Mesh keeps you cool

What We Don’t Like

  • Small frame

If you don’t like office chairs with arms, regardless if they can be flipped or adjusted, OFM has got something for you. This model is armless and extremely comfortable to sit in.

The upholstery is made from synthetic leather that is smooth to the touch and easy to maintain. It has undergone a tufting and stitching process which adds to the integrity of the material.

Ergonomics

The backrest is mid-sized and its length from the top of the seat to the top of the back measures 24’’. It doesn’t have lumbar support but some people solve this by placing a pillow in that area.

You can recline in this chair by releasing the tilt lock but you can’t lock it in place while reclined.

Also, only the back reclines while the seat stays flat. The seat is 20.5’’ wide and comfortable enough for larger people since it has no arms. It can be adjusted for height from 15’’-19’’.

Although the maximum weight capacity is set to 250 lbs, we noticed a lot heavier people using this chair without any issues.

OFM ESS Collection Bonded Leather Executive Chair

If you’re looking for the perfect balance between functionality, fair price, and comfort, we suggest checking out this model.

The design of the chair was made to encourage proper posture and the padding is a great middle-ground between soft and firm.

You should be able to work longer on this chair without feeling cramps all over. Just like standard office chairs this one reclines but can’t be locked in that position.

The armrests are padded and feel soft when you place your arms down. Since this is an executive model, it comes with a wider seat (21.25’’) and can be adjusted for height from 16.5’’ to 20.25’’.

Most people that bought this chair were extremely satisfied with their purchase and felt like they got real value for the money spent.

If you’re a fan of memory foam and how it contours to the body, this model might interest you.

The seat comes with a double plush seat that feels comfortable to sit in, and it is 19.88’’ wide. It can be adjusted for height from 20’’ to 24.8’’ off the floor.

This is a bit higher than standard models, so keep that in mind. The arms can be adjusted for height as well but they are also higher than usual and will be comfortable for people over 5’7’’ tall.

The lumbar support on this chair is decent and can also be adjusted to suit different body types.

You can recline in this chair and it only locks in an upright position. People that bought this chair think it is a reasonable chair for a reasonable price.

If you’re looking for a slim profile chair with a unique look, this one might interest you. It is upholstered in a comfortable fabric that doesn’t stain and doesn’t collect dust or fur from animals.

The backrest is slightly curved and provides good support to the upper part of your back. The padding is sufficient for short-term use but we don’t think it would be comfortable for long hours.

The arms on this chair serve an aesthetic purpose but won’t do much in terms of providing support. The lowest they go is 24.50’’ off the ground, in case you were planning to fit it under a desk.

The seat is 21.50’’ wide which should be plenty even for larger adults, but the chair gets tighter in the back, so keep that in mind.

Assembly

Assembly on this model is super easy, and the Allen wrench and extra parts included will prove to be quite helpful.

We don’t suggest this chair for people that work 8+ hours because it won’t hold up, but if you only need it for occasional use, go for it.

It is a decent compromise for an office chair that looks like it’s a part of your furniture.

To sum everything up, OFM is definitely not ‘just another budget company.’ Here’s why:

  1. They offer a limited lifetime warranty on their products
  2. They have good customer service and have been responsive so far
  3. Some of their models are really worth looking into, at least the ones on our list

The models are not extremely durable but should serve their purpose without additional issues.

You might need to tighten the screws every 6 months to keep them strong but for the budget-friendly price you get, it is definitely worth it.

As long as you understand that this is a budget line, you wouldn’t be disappointed.
