Zero Gravity Massage Chairs: Here’s My Favorite Chair

Zero Gravity Massage Chairs: Here’s My Favorite Chair

It wasn’t that long ago (Probably around 8 years) that I wouldn’t have recommended buying one of these chairs.

And it wasn’t only because they were taking my clients- they simply didn’t give a great massage and weren’t that durable.

Instead I would recommend a portable massager or a massage cushion.

But I have to be honest, that simple isn’t the case today- some of these chairs come pretty close to the real thing!

If you’re interested in buying one, I’ll recommend some of the best options and also discuss some of the most important features to consider.

Medical Breakthrough 4 v2 Recliner Massage Chair

Medical Breakthrough 4 v2 Recliner Massage Chair

  • Body scan technology
  • Targeted full body massage
  • 4D arm massage
  • Heat therapy

It was a toss up between this chair and the next Kahuna chair, but this Medical Breakthrough chair wins top honors.

Let’s get into why…

The chair has a body scan technology that takes your body type and spine position into account and then customizes the massage rollers accordingly.

Additionally, you’ll be able to manually adjust the rollers or choose from its various massage options, if that’s what you’d prefer. This way you get a massage experience tailored to your needs.

While most models on the market tend to be too strong for certain people, the manufacturer of this one has solved that issue by adding removable cushions that soften the massage.

Design and features

This model was made with high-quality materials and feels very sturdy. It was designed for people that are 5’ to 6’1’’ tall, and its weight capacity is set to 250 lbs.

In terms of quality, craftsmanship, and performance, the chair is a few levels above its competitors.

What you get is a full body massage that starts at the back of your neck and ends at your feet. It also comes with a zero gravity function that gives you a sense of weightlessness.

What customers are saying?

People that used this chair are absolutely pleased with the results and usually go for at least two massages a day.

The features they love the most are the zero gravity and the chiropractic stretch that’s not as demanding as the yoga stretch on other models, but still delivers pain relief and relaxation.

The chair comes in 3 packages, and due to its weight, it is delivered on a pallet. Assembly is easy, but make sure you’ve got another person with you as the pieces are quite heavy.

What We Like

  • Superior craftsmanship & performance
  • Various massage options to choose from
  • Provides relief from pain

What We Don’t Like

  • Lack of instructions for massage features

Kahuna Massage Chair With Yoga & Heat Therapy

Kahuna Massage Chair With Yoga & Heat Therapy

  • Yoga stretching option
  • Heating therapy
  • Space-saving design
  • Three levels of zero gravity

If you’re looking for a high-quality massage chair with as many awesome features as possible, we highly recommend this Kahuna model.

There are two things we really like about this chair. The first one is the yoga stretching program that uses the pressure of the airbags to slowly stretch your body in various positions.

The effect of improved circulation and relief can be felt immediately.

The second thing we really liked is the SH Chiro program that targets your spinal cord and releases the pressure accumulated between the vertebrae. This effect is also felt immediately.

h3>Space-saving design

Other than that, we thought the space-saving technology in this chair would be a bonus for people who were scratching their heads, wondering how to fit a massage chair into their living room.

The main issue people encounter with most other massage chairs is the extra space the chair takes when trying to get to a zero gravity mode.

This one was designed to solve that problem, and it does so in a pretty simple way. The chair slides forward and requires only 3’’ from the wall to get into a true zero gravity position.

It is also unquestionably a legit zero gravity chair because, in the third position, your feet are about 5’’ above your heart.

This model was made for people up to 6’2’’ tall and will hold up to 265 lbs of weight.

What customers are saying?

People that bought the chair agree that it’s a steal at this price, and they’re especially impressed by the excellent customer service, the company is very responsive and eager to fix any issue.

The only complaint some people had were the feet rollers that tend to be a bit too hard.

What We Like

  • Legit zero gravity
  • Yoga stretching is the real deal
  • Saves you space

What We Don’t Like

  • Foot rollers hurt

RELAXONCHAIR Zero Gravity Shiatsu Massage Chair

RELAXONCHAIR Zero Gravity Shiatsu Massage Chair

  • Intelligent body scan
  • 3 zero gravity stage positions
  • 7 automatic programs and a full manual option
  • 42 airbags

If you are willing to spend some extra money for extra quality, take a look at the RELAXONCHAIR zero gravity massage chair. It can easily be adjusted for people of all heights, whether they are 5’2” or 6’5”. It has many auto programs and a manual control function, while the 42 airbags offer full emersion. The built-in heaters, together with the 4 back massage rollers and large foot roller offer great shiatsu massages as well.

What customers are saying?

Almost everyone that has splurged for this chair has been left satisfied by it. Some customers say they were confused by the many options and choices the chair has to offer and wish the instructions it comes with were easier to read.

What we like:

  • The RELAXONCHAIR’s L-track system can accommodate it for people of all heights – from 5′ 2” to 6′ 5″.
  • Comprehensive control system with multiple program choices.
  • Great quality and durability.

What we don’t like:

  • While it is worth it, the price tag is still quite stunning.

Kahuna Zero Gravity Full-Body Recliner

Kahuna Zero Gravity Full-Body Recliner

  • 12 auto programs
  • Five levels of speed
  • Heating therapy
  • Weight capacity of 220 lbs

The Kahuna massage chair comes with 3 levels of zero gravity that can be manually adjusted and features 12 auto massage programs: Daily, Stretching, and Elite.

If you’d prefer to create your own massage routine, you not only have the option to do that but also to memorize it with the remote.

The first time you sit in the Kahuna chair, it will scan your body and adjust to your height.

Features

We were looking at the new S version of this model which features Bluetooth speakers, more color options, and rotating shoulder airbags.

The new version also has an improved backlit remote with a custom save button to store your preferred massage settings. The remote can be attached to the back of the chair for safekeeping.

You can use this chair as a recliner as long as the recliner option is turned on. When switched off, the backrest goes lower, and it would not be comfortable for sitting.

Assembly and warranty

Assembling the chair is pretty straightforward, but you’ll need two people to lift it since it weighs 220 lbs.

However, for $200 extra, you can get the White Glove service, where they will deliver the chair to the room of your choice and install it for you.

You get three years of limited warranty, which also covers one year of in-house repairs.

The only thing that needs more work on this chair is the 2D foot rollers that only cover the middle of the foot and do nothing impressive.

What We Like

  • Budget chair with above-average features
  • Comfortable for sitting & reclining
  • Sturdy

What We Don’t Like

  • Foot rollers need an upgrade

Best Massage Electric Massage Chair

Best Massage Electric Massage Chair

  • Neck to foot massage
  • Heat therapy
  • Weight capacity of 265 lbs
  • For people up to 6’3’’ tall

If you’re looking for a high-quality massage chair that has a great Shiatsu feature, the Best Massage electric massage chair is an excellent option to consider.

It’s probably the best value massage chair on the market in my opinion.

It includes many of the features that come with high-end massage chairs and has a total of 21 airbags located at different points with three intensity levels.

Features

Just like the other models on our list, this chair scans your body and adjusts the massage according to your body type.

You’ll be able to choose between rubbing, pressing, tapping, kneading, or Shiatsu, and you’ll get a zero gravity option. The heat therapy can be applied to your lower waist and the soles of your feet.

Durability

The chair is very sturdy and will work without issues for a minimum of 3 years, after that period you might start noticing some flaking on the synthetic leather which happens due to regular use.

This is only a cosmetic issue, and the chair should work fine for much longer than that.

The only real issue we found is the company’s unresponsive customer service that takes forever to answer if anything goes wrong.

What We Like

  • Shiatsu feature
  • Decent quality at competitive prices

What We Don’t Like

  • Unresponsive customer service

What customers are saying?

Some customers find the back massage to be a little rough and others were caught off-guard by the height restriction of the chair. Aside from that, the customers that knew what they were getting were more than satisfied with the product.

What we like:

  • When turned off, it can be used as a recliner chair to sleep in.
  • The exclusive armrest linkage system gives extra comfort when reclining.
  • The combination of the airbags, massage rollers, and heaters give e complete experience.

What we don’t like:

Best Massage Full Body Massage Chair

  • 8 massage points
  • Heating therapy
  • Single zero gravity position
  • Easy to assemble

The same manufacturer that brought you the best Shiatsu massage chair also has a budget model that won’t break the bank.

It is a pretty standard deal that offers eight massage points on your neck, entire back, and feet. You also get heat therapy for your back and a single zero gravity position.

This model doesn’t work with the L track system, which means the back massage will stop at your lower back, unlike other models that keep going to the tailbone area.

Still, this model is an excellent massage chair overall, and it does get the job done.

Assembly

Assembling this chair is pretty straightforward, and the package comes in 3 pieces that are easy to put together.

Under the chair, you’ll find four wheels that can be locked in place, and you also get some charging ports on the side.

Human Touch WholeBody 7.1 Massage Chair

The Human Touch 7.1 massage chair comes with three different kinds of patented technology that sounds very promising. Its weight capacity is 285 lbs, and it will suit people up to 6’4’’ tall.

There are five auto-massage programs you’ll be able to choose from, or you can set it to manual and select the area of your body where you need the massage to focus.

The massages are programmed to last for 15 minutes, and you get a neck to calf massage.

There is no footrest area on this model, but some customers use the calf area to massage their feet (manufacturer’s recommendation.)

The thing that makes this chair different from the rest is the 3D orbital massage system that’s designed to feel like a human hand.

What customers are saying

People that bought this chair are satisfied with the massage function and admit it does feel pretty close to the human touch.

The chair also features a warm air option that is focused on the lumbar area.

Top Performance Kahuna Superior Massage Chair

Kahuna’s Top Performance model was designed to be comfortable for taller and larger people.

It will accommodate people from 5’ up to 6’5’’ tall and will hold up to 320 lbs of weight. This makes it the largest and sturdiest chair on our list.

Features

The chair features six rollers that have five levels of air pressure and three levels of speed. You’ll be able to widen the rollers if needed, and the massage lasts from 10 minutes up to 30 minutes.

You also get the yoga stretching function, Shiatsu massage function, and added acupressure points located at the arms.

It has a space-saving option, so you’ll only need 3’’ of the wall when doing zero gravity. This is legit zero gravity with 3 levels of adjustment, and the third setting placing your feet above your heart.

People that bought the Top Performer say it is the best combination of price and features.

RELAXONCHAIR Built-in Heat & Air Massage

If you’re looking for a legit full body massage, this Relaxonchair might be a great choice.

The massaging SL track function goes from the upper neck to the buttocks and also gives you a forearm and wrist massage.

Before your massage, the chair will do a body scan to measure the length of your spine, so it knows exactly where to go. This chair will suit people from 5’2’’ to 6’2’’ tall and will hold 280 lbs of weight.

It features three levels of zero gravity, and you’ll need 12’’ clearance off the wall. The Relaxonchair comes with lower back heat therapy that should relax your body completely.

Osaki OS 4000 Zero Gravity Executive Massage Chair

The Osaki (Titan) zero gravity massage chair has an upgraded body scan function that should give it a pretty accurate idea of your body type.

It also has an S track massage system and heating therapy in the lower back area. The footrests are smart and detect the length of your legs automatically.

What this chair truly excels in is the hip massage that places your spine and waistline in proper alignment.

You’ll be able to recline in it up to 190 degrees and experience the zero gravity mode that was inspired by NASA.

What we really liked on this model is the additional neck pillow that gives you a separate neck massage, and the shoulder airbags that give you a sense of relief even after the first go.

This is a very cost-effective chair and it also comes with a 3-year “Rock solid” warranty.

Kahuna

Located in Cypress, California, the company behind the much loved Kahuna massage chairs is called AJX.Inc.

They’re one of the rare companies that provide you with service long after you’ve purchased their products. They have a 24-hour response policy, and they do deliver on that promise.

All of their chairs are FDA registered as a medical device, and they provide the newest technology available. Their business is accredited on the BBB (Best Business Biro) platform with an A+ rating.

Medical Breakthrough

The Medical Breakthrough brand was built by chiropractors with 36 years of experience who grew tired of waiting for someone to invent a massage chair that they could recommend to their patients.

They eventually decided to invest time in finding the right manufacturer and came up with a perfect design to make patients feel like they have a chiropractor available 24/7 in their own home.

After going through dozens of models that didn’t work and investing almost all the money they had, they came to an engineering breakthrough, hence the name – Medical Breakthrough Series.

Some of the doctors that participated in making this chair graduated from Stanford University.

Relaxonchair

Relaxonchair was founded by a crew that wanted to create affordable massage chairs and make it accessible to a larger group of people.

They pride themselves on the success they’ve reached in terms of customer reviews.

They have 4.6 stars on Amazon and five stars on Walmart and say and saythat they’ve’ve never deleted a single review, all ,all 160+ reviews are completely authentic.

The story of their success was published in Men’s Health, under the title ‘The best gear to help you de-stress.’  The company is located in Anaheim, California.

Titan Massage

The Titan and Osaki brand were created together in Dallas, Texas, back in 2007, and they both go by the name OTA World.

Over the years, they have grown exponentially into a franchise, and consider themselves to be North America’s leading provider of massage chairs.

At the moment, they offer 30 different models of massage chairs, ranging from basic models to most advanced ones.

Their physical stores are located in California, Texas, Washington, and Nevada, and all of their products are stocked and ready to reach US customers within 3-6 days.

Do massage chairs really work?

The answer to this question depends on what you expect from a massage chair. Can a massage chair match in performance a really good masseuse? No, not really. However, a truly good massage chair can give you satisfactory full-body massages, as well as heat and air-pressure therapy any time you need it to. A good massage chair eliminates the need and the expense of going to a masseuse as it can offer pain relief, muscle relaxation, and improved blood circulation in your own home at any time of day.

Are massage chairs safe?

As any other product that’s meant for free consumer use, massage chairs are made with our safety in mind. So, if you are worried about some grand danger that lurks in the form of a massage chair, you can relax. That being said, like any other mechanical device, massage chairs are not 100% fool-proof and fail-proof, and there are a few things to look out for:

  • Overloading a massage chair by exceeding its weight limit can cause a malfunction and the chair may end up bruising or stiffening your muscles.
  • Massage chairs are made to lower blood pressure so if you already have low blood pressure you should consult a physician before using such a chair.
  • Using public massage chairs (e.g. in spa centers) is better done over a towel or a piece of cloth as the chair might not have been disinfected properly.
  • If you are prone to blood clotting or coagulation, consult with a physician or opt for a hand massage.
  • At the end of the day, massage chairs are electrical devices, so if you have a heart condition consult with your doctor first.

How long should you sit in a massage chair?

The recommended use of most massage chairs is 15 minutes per sitting with 3-4 sittings per week. It may be tempting to exceed these recommendations but that can lead to unexpected muscle bruising and stiffening.

How much electricity does a massage chair use?

Depending on the brand and model, you can expect a massage chair to use anywhere between 150 watts and 300 watts, which is relatively close to the power used by the average computer.

Zero gravity massage chairs are built with one purpose in mind – to give you a completely immersing experience in all possible ways. A good massage chair will have multiple back and fool rollers for deep kneading and shiatsu massages, as well as a vibration function.

There should also be a heating function for back problems, airbags for air massage therapy and zero gravity functionality. It should also give you the ability to control these functions in any way you want.

Last but not least, premium zero gravity massage chairs should offer you full-body scan technology and be able to adjust to your weight and height.

In short, here are the key features to look for in massage chairs:

  • Zero Gravity function
  • Heat settings
  • Body scan technology
  • S track & L track
  • 2D, 3D, & 4D rollers
  • Airbags

Conclusion

Massage chairs may not be a 100% replacement for professional masseuses but they do offer a great deal of relief in the comfort of your own home. Whether you want a premium-quality chair or something more budget-friendly, we hope you find what you’re looking for among our suggestions.
