Also using the roller you can swivel back and forth which is a bigger challenge then moving side to side.

Aside from being a balance board, it can also be used as a lap desk or a soft seat. Once fully inflated, the Kumo balance board is quite solid and great for surf training or physical therapy.

The Zippy balance board was made from 9-ply North American wood that should last you a long time.

This balance board was made for snowboarders- the company designed a wooden roller that slides inside a bar on the lower side. The bar guards the roller from sliding off.

The roller was designed to mimic carving movements, it is angled and you get heel to toe movement.

Another helpful item that goes under the Zippy board is the foam teeter that can also be used as a carving tool, if you flip it over. What you get is a full body workout that is safe for the entire family.

Getting the extra sliding movement can be challenging and should take you some time to master.

Do balance boards help you lose weight?

This depends on what type of balance board you choose. Their difficulty ranges from elegant movements to resistance exercise that builds muscle.

To succeed in losing weight choose the wobble, spring or sphere board (described in this article) they will provide a bigger challenge.

Also you could choose to incorporate weights into your balance board routine. That, combined with a one hour balancing should shed some calories and keep the rest at bay.

Your success will also rely on the chosen intensity of your activity, how much you weigh (more pounds means more calories burned), and your initial cardio capacity. Expect to burn between 150 to 450 calories an hour.

How long should you use a wobble board?

You simply can’t overuse a balance board, and every time you step on it you train your body and keep it active.

Try using it daily in smaller portions until you get used to it. Begin with 15 minute sessions and repeat them a few times throughout the day.

Once you’re used to your balance board, feel free to extend the use to one hour sessions or more.

What are some good balance board exercises?

There are plenty of exercises you can do on your balance board. Try to begin with some simple movements and then build up to more demanding ones.

The first step would be to simply try not moving at all while balancing yourself on the board. Once you master this, and you legs are stronger, you’re ready for the next exercise.

While holding onto something stable, try tilting your board forward until it almost touches the floor. Then go backward, and repeat. After you get bored, start tilting side to side. Both of these movements will strengthen your ankles.

Now that you feel a bit more centered and your muscles are strengthened you can raise one foot while trying to balance on the other. You can also do squats, those will be challenging as well.

4TH Bee Core Balance Board

The Bee balance board was made from 10-ply maple wood that was cold-pressed and will prove to be a lot sturdier than it looks. It holds up to 500lbs.  The surface of the board is covered in rubber plastic that gives you good traction.

For a base you get a solid cork roller that is held in place by stop plates. The roller is safe to use on wooden floor, but for beginners it is recommended to use it on a carpet or a mat.

I simply had to include the Plankpad in today’s list. Aside from being challenging and smart, it looks adorable and has a rather small footprint compared to the rest. The design was made with comfort in mind:

Raise Your Game Balance Board Trainer Agility Set

The Raise your game agility set will be very useful if you’re devoted to training your body and wish to incorporate other exercises in your day.

The set comes with a standard balance board with a roller, but you also get 3 latex loops for stretching and resistance exercises, a pair of slide disks to practice some waxing on the ground, an adjustable jump rope which is irreplaceable for your lymph health and a practical carry bag.

Judging by the response from people that bought the Raise your game set, it is a good value for the money.

BELEBOOM Balance Trainer Ball

The BELEBOOM trainer ball is very similar to the BOSU Pro at the beginning of the list. It is flat underneath with a bladder that can be pumped for different levels of resistance.

It has a beautiful swirly design and a skid-free surface. The Beleboom Ball and will help you improve you fitness levels, and is a great balance trainer, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a standing desk.

URBNFit Balance Board Trainer

URBNFit is similar to the Bee Balance board in terms of quality, and it also comes with a roller base.

The major difference is that this one can hold up to 800 lbs. The URBNFit balance board will help you improve your balance and responsiveness.
