Things To Consider
Type of vacuum
There is a broad selection of vacuum cleaners on the market and your choice will be contingent on your personal cleaning requirements in the office.
The primary types of vacuums that people look at include handheld, robotic, stick, upright, central, canister, and backpack vacuums.
Bag or not
Some vacuums use bags for collecting dirt, hair, and dust but this must be emptied once it is filled up. It will also require replacement eventually.
Many people do not want to deal with the hassle of having to empty the bag or remembering to buy a replacement.
So for them, a more convenient option is a vacuum that uses a dust cup or canister as these are much easier to empty and clean.
However keep in mind, emptying a bagless vacuum’s bin can be an issue for people with allergies or asthma.
Cord or not
Many vacuums have a power cord that you must plug into an electric circuit before use. If you are going for one of these, make sure you look for one that has a very long power cable.
This will eliminate the need for frequent circuit changes. On the other hand, you can opt for a cordless and rechargeable model.
The only downside with cordless models is that most of them run for only an hour before you need to charge the battery.
Size & weight
Size and weight are essential when you are choosing a vacuum. The last thing you need is a bulky and heavy model that your poor cleaner has to haul around everywhere.
You need to consider the size of your office space and choose one that is lightweight and easy to maneuver.
Floor type
Another essential consideration when choosing a vacuum for the office is whether your building has hard floors, carpets, or a mix of the two.
For spaces with loads of carpeting, particularly extensive areas, a good fit is an upright vacuum.
However, if you prefer a canister vacuum, be sure to look for one with a height adjustment feature and a floor nozzle that has a motor-operated brush roll.
Filtration system
Vacuum cleaners have filters that are designed for encapsulating debris, dust, and dirt inside the drum.
Vacuums with sub-standard filtration systems would allow dust to escape through the exhaust port.
Advanced filtration systems, however, can confine microscopic bacteria, allergens, and dust particles.
HEPA filters are ideal filters for getting rid of airborne dust particles as tiny as 0.3 microns, or smaller.
Suction power
While the wattage or amperage of the vacuum is a good indication of the power usage of the unit, it has nothing to do with the suction power. The measurement for pressure is ‘pascal.’
A model is utilized for gauging the pressure variance between the standard atmospheric pressure against the inside pressure of any given vacuum cleaner.
The higher the variance, the more advanced the suction power.
Units with little suction strength are ideal for collecting dust from hard floor surfaces but they are not suitable for cleaning fabric or carpeted surfaces.
