If you’ve read my article on adjustable dumbbells, you’ll know I’m a big fan and user of this equipment.
So you won’t be surprised to know my sentiments with adjustable kettlebells.
They save you space and money, not to mention the fantastic quality equipment you get.
If you haven’t got time to read this whole review, my personal choice (that I’ve used for over a year) would be to go with the Bowflex SelectTech Kettlebell.
For my full list of recommendations and advice for purchasing adjustable kettlebells, see my guide below.
The Best Adjustable Kettlebells
Bowflex SelectTech Adjustable Weights
- Adjustable resistance from 8 to 40 pounds
- 6 resistance levels easily switched by simply turning a dial
- Access to 24 trainer-led exercises to get acquainted with kettlebell routines
- Ergonomic design and wide handle
This adjustable kettlebell allows you to replace 6 units with one, and get up to 40 pounds of weight. It has a space-efficient design and a safe weight adjustment system.
It also has a wide handle that allows you to perform all of the exercises you’d typically perform with a kettlebell such as squats, twisting movements, swings, rows, and more.
The adjustable system is very sturdy, but not it’s meant to be dropped to the ground, so you’d need to be careful with that.
What customers are saying
People are very satisfied with this product. They say that it’s easy to use and worth the money due to its high-quality materials.
However, a potential problem with this kettlebell is that some parts of it are made from plastic so even though it’s sturdy, it probably won’t survive accidental falls.
Plus, if your unit drops and becomes defective, it might be dangerous to make fast movements and perform swinging exercises.
Second Favorite Kettlebell
Powerblock Adjustable Kettlebell
- Adjustable weight of 18 to 35 pounds
- 4 weight adjustments easily switched by adjusting a magnetic pin
- Made with iron and with a contoured shell
- Wide and comfortable handle for multi-grip exercises.
You’re probably not interested in extremely small weights for your kettlebell, especially if you’re planning to lift it with both hands.
If that’s the case, the Powerblock includes only 4 weights and starts heavier than the Bowflex kettlebell. You can adjust the weights from 18, 22, 26, or 35 pounds.
The handle is comfortable, and even though it has only a pin to hold the weight, it is secure and will stay in place even when you’re performing rigorous swings.
The build quality is also perfect on this model, and its size and shape allow you to place it between your legs and do swinging movements without a problem.
What customers are saying
Customers who bought this product praise its quality and comment positively on the convenience and ergonomic aspect of its handle.
However, compared to other options you might feel restricted with its weight range.
The price can also feel a bit high if you’re on a budget, but like with most things- you get what you pay for.
Best Value Kettlebell
Apex Adjustable Heavy-Duty Exercise Kettlebell
- Customizable weight from 20 to 50 pounds
- Weights easily switched by replacing removable plates
- Made from heavy-duty materials with a powder coating for more durability
- U-shaped handle with a multi-grip option
If you already have some standard plates, you will love the Apex adjustable kettlebell.
This adjustable kettlebell comes with spacer plates only but allows you to add in any weight that has a 1’’ center hole.
The manufacturers recommend using 5 lbs or 2.5 lbs plates because if you use heavier plates, you might end up with an uneven surface and compromise your movements.
You’re also free to place as many plates as you want, but it is recommended to stay within 50 pounds.
What customers are saying
Customer reviews are overall favorable. Most of them say that it is well worth the money and some of them even report placing 10-pound plates on this kettlebell with no problems.
The only downsides reported were that it’s bulky compared to other models on the market and the lock at the bottom may get a bit loose so you’ll need to tighten it up after a while.
Ideal Kettlebell For Beginners
Hyperwear Soft Adjustable Kettlebell
- Adjustable weight of up to 30 pounds
- Features adjustable sand-filled kettlebell plates
- Ideal for learning and reducing the incidence of injuries
- Excellent performance, similar to that of solid metal
- You can buy additional plates separately if you need
If you’ve just begun learning how to use kettlebells or you’re prone to being a bit clumsy at times, the Hyperwear soft adjustable kettlebell is perfect for you.
It won’t cause any damage to your floor or any injuries to your body.
This particular model is also used in fitness studios and boot camps. It has SoftBell technology that is compatible with Hyperwear dumbbells and barbells.
So, if you like the technology you can also consider buying the barbell dumbbells for a complete 4-in-1 home set.
What customers are saying
Many people have given this product a great review, and feel extremely satisfied with their purchase, this is especially due to the safety and versatility of Hyperwear’s product line.
However, some customers have reported that the weight is constantly shifting, and the handle is not ideal for some types of squat exercises.
Most Durable Design
Titan Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell
- Adjustable weight from 10 to 40 pounds
- Includes 6 cast iron plates with an easy locking system
- High durability with a black powder coating and a flat base for convenient storage
- Excellent customer support
If you’d like something sturdy that does not necessarily stand out, the Titan Fitness kettlebell is excellent.
Without plates, it weighs only 5 pounds but you can place plates within 5-pound increments up to a total of 40 pounds.
What customers are saying
Most trainers say that the Titan Fitness adjustable kettlebell is definitely worth the money and can last a lifetime if you take care of it.
However, unlike other models, this one requires some maintenance every once in a while. After a few months, many customers say that the handle becomes a bit loose.
This is because you will need to tighten the screw that holds both handles, and if you do it regularly it will always maintain its original factory conditions.

This adjustable kettlebell by NordicTrack is an excellent starter. You get 7 kettlebells in one built by a trusted brand that has many high-quality products on the market.

What customers are saying
Most people report a good experience with this brand, even after a couple of years. They all love its durable, versatile design and say it provides great value for money.
However, it can be a bit larger than expected so some customers don’t recommend buying more than one unit.
Ludus Imperium Adjustable Kettlebell Sandbag
If you’re tired of the typical kettlebell designs, you may be interested in this one. It’s an extremely safe option, especially if you accidentally drop weights every once in a while.
It has a maximum weight of 45 lbs, and you can adjust the weight according to your preference. However, keep in mind that the sand is not included in your purchase.
The design uses a filler bag with extra zippers, and it won’t be messy or dirty if used correctly.
What customers are saying
Customers are overall very satisfied with what they got and say that this product provides excellent value for its price.
Some of them have even loaded the bag with 50 lbs of sand and had no issues or leaks.
Sure, it’s not a kettlebell strictly speaking, and it won’t give you a fixed weight, but this is not a problem if you have realistic expectations regarding a kettlebell sandbag.
Kettle Gryp - Kettlebell Adjustable Portable
If you already have dumbbells at home, this product will save you space and money. The Kettle Gryp allows you to turn almost any dumbbell into a kettlebell with a simple clip.
It is also portable, completely adaptable for most dumbbell handles, and much more affordable.
What customers are saying
The number of reviews this product has is amazing, and the majority of people who bought it have had an excellent experience.
It’s cheap, easy to use, and you can carry it to your gym if they don’t have a variety of kettlebells.
Features To Consider
Buying adjustable kettlebells for the first time might be a bit challenging.
There are many brands, and the majority of models look appropriate for the use you’re planning to give them.
However, be sure to consider these features before you make up your mind.
Adjustments
The adjustment system is very important.
Read through the reviews and assess if the weights are easy to adjust or if you’re going to struggle to adjust it each time.
This is vital, especially if you’re planning to change weights in a drop set or very dynamic workout programs.
Handle design
The reason kettlebells are versatile is precisely due to its wide handle that is easy to grip.
Ideally, you should be able to grip the handle with both hands, and it should be made of smooth material instead of metal edges that could injure your hands.
Weight range
Determine the appropriate weight range you need according to your fitness experience and your goals. If you don’t need massive weights, there’s no reason to buy one of those.
Weight increments are also essential in your purchase and the product should ideally allow 2.5 to 5 lbs increments so you can achieve a smooth transition between weights.
Durability
This feature is very important when it comes to kettlebells because they are used in very rough exercises.
If you’re buying adjustable kettlebells you either have to be very careful when you swing your kettlebell close to the ground or be very picky when searching for the right kettlebell.
Ergonomics
The design of the kettlebell may facilitate or obstruct your workouts, and you might not get a clear idea by just looking at pictures of the item.
Instead, go through the reviews and be sure to find out if the size becomes obstructive for the exercise you’re planning to do.
Common Questions
How do adjustable kettlebells work?
Every adjustable kettlebell model has a different system to switch the weights. In most cases, they use two or more plates.
You can adjust your weight by either turning a dial, placing a selector or locking pin.
Why should you choose an adjustable kettlebell?
Kettlebells are very versatile, especially if you train alone.
It’s also easier to transport one kettlebell as opposed to several and it helps you save money and space at home.
What type of exercises can you do?
Adjustable kettlebells allow you to do the same exercises you do with the traditional model. They are useful for swinging exercises, rows, squats, and much more.
In many cases, kettlebell exercises can be combined with cardio exercises to get the benefits of weightlifting and cardio at the same time.
What size should you start with?
This depends on your goals and how you are planning to use them. In most cases, active men are fine with 25 pounds.
Women on the other hand tend to use lower starting weights, around 15 and 22 pounds.
Can you get ripped with kettlebells?
It depends on the use you’re giving them and the dedication you’re placing on your training. Adding muscle also requires an appropriate diet plan.
However, it’s possible to grow muscle with kettlebells if you always use the principle of weight progression and keep growing at your own pace.
