Contractor Saws

Contractor saws offer a good middle ground between cabinet saws and portable saws. They usually encompass the rolling cart system along with durable construction and powerful operation.

They do not take up as much room as cabinet saws, but they are heavier than their portable counterparts.

Features To Consider

Size

Size is essential since it’s no use buying a bulky and heavy cabinet saw when you have limited space and not enough room to accommodate it.

Contractor saws, for instance, are a good fit for those who have a tight budget and limited space but want something more powerful and robust than a portable saw.

Table saws come in various dimensions, anything from a 10” workspace to a 55” rip capacity. The average size for most applications is a rip capacity of 25-35”.

Power

The power of the unit becomes vital when you are factoring in the volume of work you’ll be doing.

Low-powered units are suitable for small jobs, however, cutting through a large number of boards will put smaller motors under too much strain.

Miter Gauges

Since miter gauges are used for cutting angles that are not 90° they are essential pieces of equipment. Top range miter gauges have 90° and 45° hard stops.

These are the most standard angles that you will be needing to cut at. Hard stops allow you to set the angle of the miter gauge and cut effortlessly.

Fence

Tables saws are basically useless without a fence and any good table saw will come with a proper fence. Even when perfectly set, an inferior fence can screw up your cut.

Dust Collection

Most table saws feature some type of internal dust collection structure that assembles the dust and keeps it away from moving parts. The dust is usually released from the unit through a single port.

Some units have a clipped-on dust bag which is then removed for emptying. It is not an ideal option for numerous consecutive cuts although it works well outside, and keeps everything tidy.
