DRAGONN Kneeling Chair Review 2023

My colleague Meredith Chandler, who’s an occupational therapist recently published a piece on her recommended kneeling chairs.

Without going into all the details, she thought the Dragonn Kneeling Chair was the best option on the market.

She based her decision on ergonomics, quality, price, and what many customers were saying.

So with the Dragonn Kneeling Chair being so popular, I decided to do an in depth review.

DRAGONN Ergonomic Kneeling Chair

  • Height adjustable
  • Three inches of cushioning
  • Castor wheels with locks
  • Supports up to 250 lbs

The major difference between DRAGONN and a standard chair is the angle at which your thighs drop down.

On a standard chair you get a 90 degree angle, and with the kneeling chair your thighs drop down at 60-70 degrees giving your body the perfect lumbar curvature.

The chair comes with a strong and durable metal base, followed by three inches of thick mesh cushioning for the kneepad and the buttock area. Here are the numbers:

DRAGONN Dimensions: 27.4 x 19.2 x 8 inches
Height Adjustability: 21” – 28”
Weight limit: 250 lbs
Materials: Steel frame, Mesh Seating, Sponge Cushion

  • DRAGONN is both comfortable AND keeps your body in a much healthier posture
  • The position of the chair relieves lower back strain AND eliminates spinal compression
  • Relieves any tension in your leg muscles
  • Incourages proper spinal curvature thus allowing you to breathe better
  • Improves circulation and increases energy
  • Encourages active sitting

DRAGONN puts you in a dynamic seating position, and that’s exactly what the creators of the kneeling chair had in mind back in 1970. To find an alternative way of sitting that will be beneficial for your body even after long hours.

Make sure you don’t place all your weight on your knees, the lower pad should give you support, but remember to change your position every now and then.

Improves posture

The way this chair works to alleviate lower back strain is by dividing the weight of the body between the knees and the buttocks. This in turn gives you a perfect alignment of the spine.

Even if you lean further you still maintain the 90 degree angle of your body.

Very comfortable

When it comes to kneeling chairs in general, there’s a misconception among customers that they push the weight of the body on the knees and that people with bad knees shouldn’t use kneeling chair.

A proper kneeling chair will always distribute your weight between your knees and buttocks, with some of the weight going to the shins as well.

Recent studies on kneeling chairs conclude that the position of the chair benefits the body, helps with lower back injuries and aids the lumbar curvature of our body.

This chair feels very comfortable and stays comfortable even during long hours of work. It can be used to prevent lower back strain and also by people with chronic pain due to back injuries.

Height adjustable

You can change the height from 21” to 28” depending on what will work best for you. Find the perfect position and start enjoying the benefits of a kneeling chair.

Another thing that attracted our attention was the front locking wheels that will allow you to move around the office just like you did with your old office chair. For people with lower back injuries this will also be very helpful.

The DRAGONN chair definitely makes people happy, and helps them with alleviating the symptoms of chronic back and hip pain.

Some get it for home, others for work and it works great in both cases.

The customers feel their backs getting better within the first week, and there’s also some core strengthening as well. Some of them even say this is their rescue from misery. Very impressive indeed.

The chair comes with easy to understand assembly instructions, and it should take you around 30 minutes for the entire process.

You will need a socket set, and also an adjustable wrench to tighten the screws in different places. Actually most of your assembly time will be spent tightening the screws.

If you can find an extra pair of hands to hold the pieces for you while you assemble you will cut the time to 15 minutes total.

If you don’t like your DRAGONN for any reason, you can return it within 30 days.

Just as we promised, we give you info on 2 more kneeling chairs, the Sleekform, and the one that started it all, the Varier. Let’s discover them together:

Sleekform Austin Ergonomic Kneeling Chair

Sleekform Austin Ergonomic Kneeling Chair

  • Made of 20 ply birchwood
  • 4 inches of cushioning
  • Weight capacity of 265 lbs
  • Rocking motion

The customers that tried both Sleekform and the DRAGONN say that they prefer the DRAGONN due to its tilted seat that gives it the proper comfort angle, and superior cushioning material. So although the Sleekform has thicker cushioning, the DRAGONN provides a more comfortable experience.

The other major difference is the building material. Sleekform is made of wood which gives it a much nicer look, but it won’t last as long as the metal base of the DRAGONN.

On the other hand the rocking motion is a big design plus, especially among people with attention disorders, or fidgety types of people.

In general most people that used this chair say it’s a major step-up from any standard office chair.

Varier Variable Balans Original Kneeling Chair

Varier Variable Balans Original Kneeling Chair

  • Highest quality of wood
  • Strong and flexible
  • Rocking movement

The beginnings of the kneeling chairs can be traced 40 years ago in the 70’s  to answer the groing need for alternative sitting. The chair was invented by Hans Christian Mengshoel and Danish surgeon Dr. A C Mandal.

The Varier Variable’s design has been copied and adapted since 1979, but most people swear by this Scandinavian beauty even to this day.

This model is the basic version that doesn’t come with wheels; it is a rocking motion design. It will fit most people but can’t be adjusted for height.
